Electronic Engineering Construction Kits For Kids And Parents
DIY Electronics projects kits make ideal gifts for bright children
Looking for an educational toy for your children? How about a gift that your kids will love and one that you will wish you could play with all by yourself? Well that's exactly what can happen when you invest in an
Educational Electronics Construction Kit.
How do I know this? I know that you and your kids are going to have loads of fun and learn a lot at the same time because that's exactly what happened to me when I was given an electronics projects kit as a kid. My dad loved it as much as I did.
The educational kits that you can get today are often suitable for children from around 8 years old but you can scarcely call them toys. They are full blown electronics engineering courses in a colorful box. They make it really simple to build circuits by just snapping the components together. Easy to understand instructions and tutorials means that you can literally build hundreds of fully working electronic devices in no time at all.
Educational electronics kits like this can be suitable for young children but I would be very surprised if you don't get a lot of fun from it too. If you have a curious mind and you are not already an Electronics engineer yourself then you can learn with these kits along with your kids. Actually the kids are optional. Why not get one for yourself to play with?
I've looked around for the best educational circuit kits that I can find to post here and I've put together a range of the best at different price points. If this is the first kit for a young child then you may want to test the water with a cheaper kit but be prepared to go back for the bigger kits later.
Buy your kids one of the kits below or from the full list of educational electronics kits. They will love you for it.
Snap Circuits Jr. SC-100
Test the water with this reasonably priced solderless construction kit from Elenco. It's a great gift that will surely ignite any potential interest in the world of electronics.

Snap Circuits SC-300
Another starter kit which doubles the number of projects over the SC-100 kit. It's still affordable but just that little bit more interesting.

Snap Circuits Green - Alternative Energy Kit
This kit is ideal for teaching the role of electronics in green projects where energy conservation is paramount. The set includes circuits that demonstrate solar power, windmills, hydroelectric power, rechargeable batteries, and liquid batteries. This product is an awesome way to teach electronics to kids.

Snap Circuits Extreme SC-750
The ultimate electronic engineering construction kit for kids and a challenge to most adults too. With over 750 experiments to build this kit will keep you occupied for quite some time. It's also the most expensive kit in our line up but well worth it.

Elenco 130-in-1 Electronic Playground and Learning Center
The Electronic Playground looks more like a traditional electronics trainer than it does a toy. It reminds me of the trainers that we used to use in the lab in our first year of university only much easier to understand.
All the components on this toy are fixed which sets it apart from the Snap Circuits type of kit. With Snap Circuits you start with a box full of bits and snap them together to make circuits. With the Electronic Playground everything is inside the board and you make connections between springy terminals. Both types of construction kits have their place and are just as good as each other.

Thames and Kosmos Electronics: Learning Circuits
This toy snaps together like Lego blocks and it comes with a great set of instructions. Not only is this an enjoyable and fun to play with toy but it's also a very good introductory trainer for electronics. It teaches the basics without overwhelming the student. Your kids will love this one

The [learn electronic circuit while playing] littleBits Starter Kit v0.3 electronic block
LittleBits is an awesome concept based on little modules that snap together with magnets. The magnets hold it all together and make it so easy to build the projects. It also means that there is very little chance of you connecting stuff up the wrong way and damaging it because the magnets are polarized and will only snap together one way.
The only down side of LittleBits is the price. It is a little expensive but it could be worth it.
